Accomplishments

CHILDREN AT RISK has worked to help our state’s most defenseless children by providing them with a voice in the decisions that so dramatically affect their lives. CHILDREN AT RISK has brought pressing children’s issues to the forefront, speaking out for those without the leverage to do so themselves.

The organization’s foremost recent accomplishments include:

  • Launched the Journal of Applied Research on Children, an online, open access, peer-reviewed journal uniquely focused on interdisciplinary research that is linked to practical, evidenced-based policy solutions for children’s issues.
  • Submitted a “friend of the court” brief on behalf of a young victim of human trafficking in the Texas Supreme Court case In the Matter of B.W., resulting in a significant victory for child victims of sex trafficking facing the criminal charge of prostitution.
  • Released the 5th annual School Rankings across Texas in partnership with the Houston Chronicle, Dallas Morning News, Austin American Statesman, San Antonio Express-News, and Texas Tribune, raising unmatched awareness on the quality of local schools and the need for reform in public education.
  • Raised immense awareness of the most pressing issues facing Texas’ children through educational events across the state including a Children’s Summit, Future of Our Children conferences, Week of Prayer for our Children & Youth, State Summits on the Trafficking & Exploitation of Children, “Houston’s Future, Houston’s Children” class series, and many more.
