Laila is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, with a double major in Corporate Communications and Hispanic Studies, and is fluent in Spanish. She brings outstanding direct service experience to CHILDREN AT RISK from her time as a first grade teacher in a dual language class, which was comprised of predominately low income and at-risk children, and years of volunteering in different capacities within the Latino community both nationally and internationally. As the daughter of a Mexican mother, Laila is an advocate for Latino children and recognizes the unique and rising needs of her community. She was also in charge of the 4th annual Nuestra Familia, Nuestra Salud health fair that hosted more attendees than ever before. As Assistant Director of Development and Special Projects, Laila is the primary grant writer and event support. She is proud to be a part of the CHILDREN AT RISK family.
