As Texas lawmakers struggle to close a multi-billion dollar budget shortfall, Texas school districts are bracing for drastic cuts and calculating the potential damage in terms of teacher layoffs, shattered programs, and reduced services to children and families.

Join ChildBuilders, CHILDREN AT RISK, Collaborative for Children, Houston A+ Challenge, One Voice-Texas, Project GRAD Houston, and United Way of Greater Houston on April 6th at the United Way of Greater Houston for A Mid-Session Report featuring the latest budget news from Austin, how school districts are responding, and what it means for children and families in the Houston region:

  • Keynote presentation by education law expert J. David Thompson (Partner, Thompson & Horton, LLP)
  • Panel discussion with leaders from various local school districts, reporting the impact of proposed budget cuts on schools and students, including Susan Kellner (Spring Branch ISD Board Member) and Anna Eastman (Second Vice President, HISD Board of Education)

Who should attend? Education advocates — whether from districts or non-profits, other groups or individuals – as our goal is to inform and unite the many separate voices working to protect education this session.

Please RSVP your attendance to Candace Spencer at cspencer@onevoicetexas.org or 713.333.2204.

This meeting builds on the December legislative round table event hosted by CHILDREN AT RISK and Houston A+ Challenge with the generous support of Shell.
