2010 Operations Support Volunteer
CHILDREN AT RISK is offering an extraordinary volunteer opportunity. The Operations Support Volunteer will have the opportunity to learn from a top staff the intricacies of a highly successful, macro-level non-profit organization. The preferred candidate will be an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual with a passion for social justice and higher learning. The Operations Support Volunteer will join a small, driven, and dynamic team and work closely with administrative staff members and the development department to ensure office efficiency. The work that will be completed by the selected candidate is crucial to the success of our organization, and will afford employees the time needed to meet deadlines of important, work intensive projects.
Founded in 1989, CHILDREN AT RISK is an active research and advocacy group dedicated to improving the quality of life of Texas’ children in the areas of physical and mental health, education reform, human trafficking and juvenile justice reform. We are the leading source of accurate information on children’s issues and an advocate and catalyst for change concerning the needs of all children in the Greater Houston area.
Key responsibilities include:
- Coordinating committee and internal staff meetings;
- Providing support with event planning and execution;
- Creating and implementing a tracking system for the office work stations;
- Revamping dated office policies;
- Answering phones and greeting visitors;
- Performing administrative tasks including, but not limited to tracking President & CEO’s mileage, daily office maintenance, and ordering office supplies;
- Conducting internet research for various, office related needs;
- Working closely with the development department to ensure donor database is accurate and up to date;
- Working closely with the administrative department to ensure the President & CEO’s contact database is accurate and up to date.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to commit to a set number of hours or days each week;
- Ability to work independently as well as a team member;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Software including Outlook, Excel, Word, and Publisher;
- A strong work ethic, a good sense of humor, and an outgoing personality;
- A commitment to children, innovative public policy, and positive change preferred;
- Ability to bend, and lift boxes that do not exceed 30 lbs.
