Marissa joined CHILDREN AT RISK as the Project Editorial Coordinator in June 2015. She holds a BS degree from James Madison University where she majored in Justice Studies: Global Justice and Policy and she minored in Creative Writing. As a former nanny and Irish dance instructor and as an aunt to four nieces and nephews, Marissa has developed a passion for helping children to grow and succeed. What did you want to be when you grew up?
I desperately wanted to be Xena or Wonder Woman. That didn’t quite work out.
Which teacher had the greatest impact on you?
One of my college professors, Dr. Sue Spivey (“Suey”) was very influential to me. She truly had a gift for engaging students and getting them to consider the world from different perspectives.
What is your dream for Texas children?
I want each and every child to pursue their biggest, boldest dreams and to grow up feeling safe and loved.
