About Katie Gilchrist

Katie is a native Houstonian. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from the University of North Texas and a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Houston. Prior to joining CHILDREN AT RISK, she provided direct services in the form of crisis intervention and criminal justice advocacy to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and rape. Katie is currently serving as an Americorps Vista within CHILDREN AT RISK, with her work dedicated to researching the impact of Hurricane Harvey, by utilizing both qualitative and quantitative data to promote effective policy reform for disaster recovery. Katie is passionate about bringing people together and believes that all individuals deserve to have a seat at the table when change for the future is being discussed.
