Lise Valbert
Tell us a little bit about how you became involved with CHILDREN AT RISK (C@R).
I am good friends and neighbors with Dr. Bob and his wife, Ellen. He asked me to be a personal reference for him when interviewing for the Executive Director position and of course I gave him a glowing reference. I think he is the best. How can you not be involved with C@R once you know Bob and his wonderful team?
What has been your favorite memory with the organization, or what accomplishment have you been most proud of for the organization?
My favorite memory would have to be the Christmas gift exchange. Those are always a hoot and such great camaraderie.
On a more serious note, I have learned so much from the organization and the research that they do. The focus that they put on Human Trafficking is instrumental in helping raise awareness to the issue and the role that Houston plays. In addition, the efforts that C@R has made on the School Meals program is amazing and is the one of the many things that I am most proud.
What are your community activities or hobbies, Lise?
I am an avid reader and dabble with various kinds of art medium.
When you were a child, what did you dream you would be when you grew up?
I was fortunate in that I had a vision at an early age, I wanted to be an interior designer from 5th grade on. I achieved that dream and I am currently working in a field related to that.
What is your favorite part of the CHILDREN AT RISK mission?
In my opinion, improving the quality of life for children is the key to the mission statement in whatever form that takes.
What is one reason someone should give their time, effort, and support to CHILDREN AT RISK?
The children are our future, “It takes a village to raise a child”.
