Dr. Christopher Greeley
Tell us a little bit about how you became involved with CHILDREN AT RISK?
When I first moved to Houston in 2007 I wanted to get involved in an active community group working to improve the lives of children. I found it with CHILDREN AT RISK.
How did you specifically become involved with the Journal of Applied Research on Children (JARC)?
I worked with Bob Sanborn, Angelo Giardino and Ruth Sorelle (and Caroline Holcombe and Megan Schneider) to think about launching a journal where we could fill the gap between research and policy; JARC was then born.
What has been your favorite memory with the organization, or what accomplishment have you most enjoyed for the organization?
My favorite memory is working with Bob and Angelo to frame the Center for Parenting and Family Well-Being and then watching it grow under Nancy Correa’s leadership. That has been very rewarding.
What are your community activities or hobbies, Chris?
I primarily spend my time trying to keep my triplet sons entertained and occupied. I am also a runner (trapped in a Scotch Sommelier’s body) and most recently ran the Houston Marathon and the Rhythm and Blues Half Marathon (both winter, 2014).
When you were a child, what did you dream you would be when you grew up?
Like all little boys I wanted to be an astronaut. I settled for being a pediatrician.
What is your favorite part of the CHILDREN AT RISK mission?
Data. As a data nerd there is most commonly a gap between what we know and what we do. CHILDREN AT RISK is able to bridge that gap.
What is one reason someone should give their time, effort and support to CHILDREN AT RISK?
Dum tempus habemus, operemur bonum (While we have time, let us do good). Who are more deserving of our good works but our children?
