A Legacy of Philanthropy Continues through North Texas Giving Day
By Amanda Crawford-Steger

It is said that the spirit of philanthropy began when Plato left his farm to a nephew with instructions to use the proceeds to support the academy he founded. This legacy of giving has continued to grow and, according to John F. Kennedy, has even become ingrained in our society. “Philanthropy, charity, giving voluntarily and freely… call it what you like, but it is truly a jewel of an American tradition.”

As a development officer and a person committed to seeing positive change in the world, I know that giving is a very personal decision. Not only are you deciding where you want to invest hard-earned money, you are deciding what your legacy of giving will be. According to motivational speaker and author, Steve Chandler, the act of giving is about matching up dreams. To donate is the act of identifying what your dream is and pursuing it wholeheartedly through the mission of an organization.

Now, this is no easy task! One tool that we have as North Texans and discerning donors is Donor Bridge, an online resource that includes nearly 1200 North Texas nonprofit profiles with in-depth analysis on each one.

In order to continue in its spirit of connecting verified nonprofits with donors, Donor Bridge powers North Texas Giving Day. North Texas Giving Day is an annual occurrence that encourages donors and organizations to come together around that idea that every dollar donated has a large impact on the community around them. This year, on September 19th, from 7 AM to midnight, every donation of $25 or more made through DonorBridgeTX.com, will be matched by a portion of $1.7 million in matching funds, making every dollar go further.

This is CHILDREN AT RISK’s second year to participate in North Texas Giving Day and our hope is that if our dream of providing the necessary change to create a better North Texas and Texas for our children matches your dream, you will make us part of your legacy by becoming a donor and advocate. To donate to CHILDREN AT RISK this North Texas Giving Day, visit: https://www.donorbridgetx.org/npo/760360533/.

Your donation will go a long way in helping create a better future for the children of Texas and your voice will go a long way in amplifying that effect. You can be a catalyst for change as a social media advocate by reaching out to 5 friends through email, Facebook or Twitter. Tell them why you think that donating your funds will have a positive impact in your community and why they should join you.
