Having trouble navigating your child’s school system? Unsure of your child’s education options? Looking to make sure your child is getting the services they need to succeed? Our 2018 regional Parent Action Guides aim to help parents answer these questions and more. Each year, CHILDREN AT RISK collects data, parenting tips, and education advice to share with local parents and community members. Through in-person workshops, printed handbooks, and now online, CHILDREN AT RISK works to include all families in the public education data conversation and equip them with the tools they need to navigate the system successfully.
This year’s guides provide families with answers to their pressing education questions, consisting of 4 unique chapters, information on regional school districts, and local resources.
- Parents As Partners helps parents understand their role in their child’s education, how to support their child education outside of the school day, and how to advocate for change when needed- from talking to your child’s teacher all the way to state legislation.
- Understanding Schools breaks down your child’s current education options (traditional, charter, magnets schools, etc.) and gives parents tools to find the best option for their child, as well as advice on how to work the application/transfer system.
- Cradle to Career helps parents create a “college and career” ready mindset from any age, covering everything from early education to financial aid.
- Special Populations helps parents of children with special needs or concerns including children with special needs, English Language Learners, children from immigrant communities, children experiencing homelessness, children in foster or kinship care, and children who identify as LGBTIQ.
