Texas School Guide: A Parent’s Roadmap to Success  (Dallas ISD & Fort Worth ISD Area Public Schools)

Dallas, TX (January 14, 2014) – On Monday, January 13th CHILDREN AT RISK hosted a press conference to release its newest publications for Dallas ISD and Fort Worth ISD area public schools, Texas School Guide: A Parent’s Roadmap to Success.  Dr. Robert Sanborn, President and CEO of CHILDREN AT RISK, introduced the initiative, indicating that this project stems from parent’s need for a data-driven “one-stop-shop” resource to understanding their school choice options.

Michelle Kinder, Executive Director of the Salesmanship Club Youth and Family Centers, Byron Sanders, Executive Director of the Dallas Education Foundation, and Clint McDonnough, EY Dallas Managing Partner, spoke about the guide’s relevance and the significant impact it will have in the lives of children and families in the Dallas and Fort Worth areas.

Texas School Guide contains detailed information on schools in each of the districts, as well as area charter schools, including performance data, average class size, graduation rates, and the application process for charter schools, magnet schools, and programs and schools of choice. Texas School Guide also includes new findings on school assets, such as before and after school programs, sports and athletic programs, and available art and music classes. The project, which has taken 7 months to complete, features an interactive website: TexasSchoolGuide.org.

Later this month and continuing through March, CHILDREN AT RISK will hold parent workshops on how to use the guides, as well as the corresponding website. Presentations will demonstrate how to access pertinent information in the guides, and can be targeted toward specific audiences. The workshops will also include Q and A sessions. Publications will be distributed throughout Dallas and Fort Worth in the upcoming weeks.
